Scaredy Cat

This literally was me last night. Dustin was on shift last night so I was by myself. I am used to spending every third night by myself while he is at work and I usually never get scared. I got in bed around 11:00 to go to sleep and I turned the TV off and it was really quiet....just like I like it. Then my dogs heard a noise and leaped off the bed and out the doggie door. I have 2 Boxers who think they are big and bad. At this point I was not scared because they do this from time to time.

When they were outside they kept barking and growling and running from one side of the back yard to the other. They were going crazy. They finally came back in and settled down and so did I. About 10 minutes later I heard a noise outside and so did the dogs. They were up again and outside in no time. They were running from one side to the other barking and growling again. They kept going to each of the gates in the back yard. I was getting really scared at this point. I kept thinking what if someone is out there and then I kept thinking what if they hurt the dogs, what if they try to break in? I was panicked. I grabbed my phone to call Dustin.

He told me to turn on the outside lights and go see. Yea right! I was not stepping foot outside my bedroom. He told me his shot gun was under the bed. Problem # 2, I don't know how to use the thing. Guns scare me. I could see myself sitting there trying to figure out how to use the thing as the robber comes inside and I say "excuse me Mr. Robber but I don't know how to use this thing, think you could show me?"

The dogs settled down again and I thought it was over. About 15 minutes later we heard another noise and boom they were off. I was scared to the bone. So I grabbed the phone again and called my dad. I was going to see if he could come stay with me. He told me to calm down and if I was really that scared to call the police. I didn't want to bug the police over nothing. He kept talking to me and finally convinced me to go to the front bedroom in the house and peek out the window to see if I see anything. I got enough courage and when I peeked out the blinds.....

I discovered that my neighbors across the street were having a small get together. There were about 5 or 6 cars and a few people standing outside talking. I almost started laughing. I could only imagine if I had called the police....I would have looked like a huge idiot. Now I know what the dogs were going crazy over and I let them fool me into thinking some one was trying to break in.

I am such a scaredy cat!

Photo Story Friday

Thought this would be fun and maybe I could make it a regular Friday post. Please play along with me! If you play along let me know so I can check out your photo story! I love reading the story behind a photo. For my first photo story I thought I would post some pictures of our wedding. I started blogging after we got married and haven't posted any pictures from the most exciting day of my life thus far!

Dustin and I got married on August 2, 2008 and it was by far the most fun experience I have ever had. We had a blast at our wedding, I only wish it could have lasted longer. The whole experience of being engaged and planning our wedding was so fun. Yes, it could be stressful at times but it was still fun.

One of my favorite parts of the reception was cutting the cake. It is that old tradition that is still around today. Every one gathered around and watched as we cut the cake. We didn't smear cake all of each other faces, even though Dustin acted like he was going to. I loved my cake and it was so good!

I think our first dance was probably my most favorite part of my wedding. Dustin's good friend Josh (who was also a groomsmen) sang a song he had written for our first dance. He just sang with his guitar and it was so pretty. The guests really enjoyed it. It was also kind of the first alone time Dustin and I got even though we were in the middle of the dance floor. It was really special and I will always remember it.

I love this picture. I think it sums up how Dustin and I both felt that day.....Happy! He is my best friend and I couldn't imagine living without him. He makes me laugh and can brighten my day in an instant. He makes me feel special and I love him very much!

What is your photo story?

Thursday Survey

I saw this fun survey on another blog and I thought I would play along. Here are my questions and answers. I am not going to tag anyone but feel free to participate.....Kelsie, Kendall & Nadalee :) !

1. How did you and your hubby meet?

We meet through mutual friends. My best friend Kelsie was dating a guy named Ryan our senior year in high school. Ryan was good friends with Dustin. I was single at the time and so was Dustin. The first time I actually met him was our Senior prom. Ryan and Dustin didn't live in the same town as Kelsie and I so they went to different high schools. Dustin went to prom with Kelsie's best friend Kim and I went to prom with another one of Ryan's friends. Crazy, I know! Dustin and I didn't talk much on prom night but a few weeks later I hung out with Ryan and Kelsie and Dustin came. We started talking and went out the next weekend. Unfortunately I was leaving at the end of the summer to go to school in Lubbock. We dated over the summer but broke up shortly after I moved to Lubbock. We remained friends and would hang out when I came home. The summer before my junior year in college I decided to move back home to finish college. I was kind of seeing someone else at the time but it didn't last long. Dustin and I were still good friends and talked on a regular basis. I was reluctant at first to date him because we were such good friends but I finally gave in and 4 1/2 years later here we are happily married!

2. If you could do any job in the world, what would it be?

This is a tough one for me because I don't really know. I have never had a dream job in mind. There just isn't a job that I look at and say "this would be my dream job". Sometimes I think it would be so great to be a stay at home mom when Dustin and I have kids. If I was to be off work for more than a week I would go nuts. I get so bored but maybe that is because I don't have any kids to run around after. Maybe it really would be more enjoyable if I did have kids but I know I would still strive for that adult interaction everyday. I have also thought it would be fun to be a designer and have my own store. This one would never be realistic because I am not creative enough or artistic enough. It would be fun though! My last job that I guess you could say would be my dream job would be to become a teacher. I think it would be fun and you get the summers off! I have actually thought seriously about getting my teacher's certification and might seriously consider in the next year. The schedule would be wonderful when I do have kids. I would want to teach high school. I think I would connect better with that age group.

3. What are you and your hubby's dreams for the future?

Long Term dreams I would have to say being happy. Yea, we want material things like a bigger home on some land, have children, new cars and go to Hawaii. It is quite possible we may/will achieve all of that one day. My dream is that no matter what we will always find happiness in each other. Our more short term goals/dreams is to go on vacation this summer for our one year anniversary, landscape the yard and possibly some new furniture.

4. Why did you start blogging?

My friend Kelsie introduced me to it. I had no idea that this blogging world even existed. I started blogging at the end of last year and at first I didn't think it was something I would keep up with. Honestly my life is not that interesting. I thought to myself, what could I possibly write on this blog that someone would want to read. The more blogs I read the easier it became. Now, I want my blog to be a journal of our lives together. Something that we can both look back at with our kids. I am not scrapbooker and don't see myself ever keeping up scrapbooks and this is a wonderful way to look back on the events of our life.

5. Who do you look up to? Who is your inspiration?

This one is an easy one for me. My dad. He is the hardest working person I know and he has always done his best to provide for my sister and I. He has taught me the power of unconditional love. He would do anything for us. He always gives more than what is ever asked of him. He has run a successful business for 30 years and can do anything he puts his mind to. I have always been close to him and I am very proud of him.

Side Note: Did anyone watch American Idol last night? I was totally disappointed. Nobody is outstanding. They all seem to be picking the wrong songs. The only one I really liked last night was the 16 year old girl with the red hair, I can't remember her name. I sure hope they start doing better. I am so glad today is Thursday because I am ready for the weekend!

It Is Almost Time For......

Spring! My favorite time of year! The weather is so nice today. I wish I could spend the day outside. Spring time weather is just around the corner and that means these...I love wearing flip flops. There are a bunch of cute ones at Target. But flip flops also mean pedicures! I love getting pedicures but my husband and our bank account not so much. But spring time also means tanning which means more money. Tanning means swim suits....eww just got a bad mental picture of me in a swim suit at the beach....that won't be happening. I need to hit the gym before I attempt to try on a swim suit.
This time of year sure can get expensive...but I guess that is the price you pay to be beautiful! (ha!)

Old School

Does anyone remember playing Skee Ball as a kid? I love this game! Not sure why since all you do is roll the ball and try to get it in the different holes worth various dollar amounts but it is still fun. Last night I had a Happy Hour with 2 of my co-workers and one of our clients. We met up at this place called Barcadia in Dallas. They have all these old school arcade games.....and they had Skee Ball.

Now, I don't have any pictures of all of us playing skee ball because I am not that brave yet to just whip out my camera in front of our client and my co-workers and start taking pictures. They would have thought I was crazy! The game is so addicting and I could have played it all night. I felt like a kid again. You don't see this game around anymore except for maybe at Dave & Busters.

It sure was a fun way to start off the week. I hate Mondays.

Lindsey's Best & Worst Dressed List

After every awards show I always look online the next day for pictures from the Red Carpet. I always love to see what the stars wear. I don't care what designer they are wearing, I just love to see all the beautiful dresses. It would be so fun to get all dressed up like that. I also love to see the best & worst dressed list.

I usually don't ever watch any of the awards shows especially the Oscars because it is boring. As you all know last night was the 81st Annual Academy Awards. I didn't watch any of it but first thing I did this morning was check out all the pictures from the red carpet. I haven't seen the best & worst dressed list yet but I thought it would be fun to do my own. Oh, and I know nothing about fashion by the way. So here it goes....

Worst Dressed

Jessica Biel looked terrible in this dress. What was she thinking? I hate the style and I hate the color. It looks like one of those terrible bridesmaid dresses.

Awful! Terrible! Hideous! Need I say more?

I don't even have words for this one.

It's see through.....never a good choice.

Best DressedI love this! It does look like it could be a wedding dress but it is still beautiful.

Love her and Love this!

I don't particularly like Angelina Jolie but this dress is gorgeous!

I love this color!

Did anyone watch the Academy Awards? Who was your favorite on the red carpet?

Saturday!

Well this post may not be very interesting. I don't have any pictures to post. So far the weekend has been great! Friday night I came home and Dustin made Tacos for dinner and we took the dogs walking. We also caught up on our TV shows. I had a busy week and wasn't able to watch much TV.

Today was fun! I slept in and then Jennifer and I went to Mimi's Cafe for lunch and then went over to the mall to do some shopping. It was not a fun shopping day for me though. I have this huge itch to shop but I can't find anything that I feel the need to spend money on. I see lots of cute things but I tell myself I could live without it. Has this been happening to anybody else?

I did buy this cute cardigan from The Limited. You can go here to view it. It wouldn't let me copy the picture. I am going to a Bachelorette party next weekend and the theme is black and white. I was looking for a cute black dress to wear it with but then I thought to myself...my legs are way too white for a dress. I also needed a gift for the Bachelorette so I bought two cute nighties from Old Navy. My sister got me one from there for my Bachelorette party and I love it.

Tonight I went to dinner with my Dad. My mom is out of town and Dustin is on shift so we decided to go to dinner. I love my Dad. I have always been really close to him and I can talk to him about pretty much anything. We went to the Pour House. Now I am home and I am fixing to watch this movie.

I have been wanting to see this movie and it is the perfect night since Dustin isn't here. I hope it is a good one.

I hope everyone is having a great weekend!

Childhood Memories

Whenever I think of my grandmother I think of my childhood. My grandmother came in from South Texas last night so I went over to my parent's house for dinner. She and my mom are going to Lubbock this weekend to visit my sister and attend a mother/daughter event for my sister's sorority.

My grandparents live at the very tip of South Texas about an hour from South Padre Island. I have so many childhood memories from spending every spring break and summer with them growing up. My grandparents have a ranch so I did everything from picking cotton with my grandpa on the combine to riding horses with my cousins. We would play for hours outside in the hot summer sun. Today you can't get me outside for more than 15 minutes in the hot summer sun (Ha!).

Every spring break we would attend the Rio Grande Valley Live Stock Show & Rodeo....can you say YeeHaw! We would spend all week there since my grandpa is on the board of directors and he put on the rodeo every year. Yes, I am from Texas! In the summer my sister Nadalee and my cousin Kacey and I would play in the barns, climb on the bails of hay and even swam in the silage.
If you are country folk you know what silage is but for those of you that don't it is a big pile of stuff that comes off the front loader of a tractor after it has been out in the pasture of cows. Need I say more? It had rained earlier that day and had created a huge mud tank or so we thought anyways. If we had only known what we were swimming in back then. When my mom and aunt found us they died laughing and we had to be hosed off before we were allowed back in the house.

We would go every summer to South Padre Island and spend the day at the beach. I have so many childhood memories from spending my summers in South Texas but I won't continue to bore you. I haven't had the opportunity to get down to South Texas as I have gotten older. This summer Dustin and I are going down there for a long weekend and we are going to go to the beach. I can't wait!

What are your favorite childhood memories?

P.S. I am so glad it is Friday! I am looking forward to a relaxing weekend. I don't have much planned which is great considering the next 5 weekends are going to be busy busy for me.

She's My Favorite!

Guess who is back??? Finally!!

I heart Julia Roberts. She has 2 new movies coming out soon and I am excited. Ever since she got married and had children she kind of put her acting career aside. She is being featured in Allure Magazine's March issue. My absolute all time favorite movie is Pretty Woman and the runner up is Steel Magnolias. I could watch both of these movies over and over again.

What are you favorite movies?

Last night I had Bunco at my house and I didn't get a single picture. Darn it! It was a lot of fun as usual. We chowed down on pizza, salad and chocolate chip cookie dough brownies. The brownies turned out really good. I was proud of myself....if you don't know me I don't cook. Thanks to Jennifer and Kelsie who helped me out in the kitchen last night. I am such a bad hostess (Ha!).

Wooohooo...tomorrow is Friday!

Prayers and Brownies

My friend Kendall is doing a prayer blog where you can put anything you want you feel that needs prayed for. I listed my prayer this morning and I thought I would also list it on here. If you want to participate please jump on over to Kendall's blog. Please pray for every one's joys and concerns.

My prayer is for our country. Every morning on the news you hear of more people losing their jobs and their homes. It is a very scary time and so many people are struggling. I pray that God will lead our President and the people of this country and comfort those who are struggling. The state of the economy has affected so many people and I pray that they will turn to God in their time of need.

Last night I made Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Brownies for Bunco tonight. I think they turned out right! HaHa! I am not great in the kitchen. I posted the link to the recipe in an earlier post but here are the ingredients.

Here is what they look like. I still need to put the icing on they look like.

We will see if they taste good tonight. One last thing, I finished the Uppercase Living project and I hung it in my entry way.

Random Tuesday

Here is my random list of things for this Tuesday.

1. Did anyone watch the Bachelor last night?? Let me start out by saying that I think this show is completely ridiculous but I still tune in to watch every week. None of the couples ever stay together but millions of people still watch every season. I am rooting for Melissa mostly because she is from Dallas. She and Jason also seem to have a strong connection.
Who do you want Jason to pick?

Melissa

or Molly

2. I started a new book this week. I am not that far into it yet but so far so good. It is called Good In Bed.

I can only imagine what you are thinking.

Here is a quick synopsis....When plus-sized Philadelphia Examiner columnist Cannie Shapiro decides to take a break from her boyfriend of three years, she has no idea just how drastically her life is about to change. While she's used to exposing the inner secrets of others' lives in her column, she isn't prepared for what happens when the tables are turned on her. Not only does Bruce extol her sexual prowess in the article, he also discusses her size-related insecurities and how he never thought of himself as a "chubbie chaser." Fallout from the piece launches Cannie into an emotional whirlwind of anger, embarrassment, desperation, and depression. It also triggers a year's worth of events that will have an astounding impact on her life, taking readers along on a journey that is poignant, comical, and utterly unforgettable.

I'll let you know if it turns out to be a good one but it might be a book you want to add to your list.

3. I am so excited for American Idol tonight!!! This is my favorite part of the show. There were so many talented singers during Hollywood week and I can't wait to see how they do tonight. Another favorite that is on tonight is Biggest Loser. This is Dustin and I's favorite. I will be juggling both shows tonight while I am baking up a storm for Bunco tomorrow night.

4. Last but not least on my completely random list today......are my 2 favorite dogs in the entire world.....Jax & Maribel. They are constantly cracking me up. Just look at Jax's face.

Aren't they cute? I love them!

Junk Mail

We are up to our necks in junk mail. I hate it! We get at least 2 to 3 pieces of junk mail a day. Ever since we bought our house it has increased. We get stuff for credit card applications, mortgage insurance, auto insurance, etc. every day. It is so annoying.

I hate to shred stuff. It is not hard to do but I hate doing it. I want to just be able to chunk it in the trash and be done with it. But with identity theft these days you can't be too careful. So now I have to go through each envelope and separate the trash from the stuff I have to shred. Ugh! I always procrastinate and it drives Dustin crazy. I leave it laying around the house for weeks at a time. To show you how much we get in a weeks time I took a picture.

This is one weeks worth of junk mail!

This is all the stuff I need to shred. I have a good excuse this time, our shredder is broken. We have to buy a new one. Who would have thought that a shredder would have become a necessary household item??

Dustin thinks we should mail the blank applications back to them in the pre-paid envelopes. It is a good idea but I don't even take the time to shred the stuff, let alone take the time to actually mail it back to them.

Does anyone else get this much junk mail?

P.S. I am excited for the Bachelor tonight! I really hope he keeps Melissa. I guess we shall see. Happy Monday!

Sunday Wrap-up

Today was a great day minus the cleaning I did this morning. Dustin is on shift today so I spent the whole morning cleaning the house. It is so much easier to get things done when he is not here. Yes, I skipped church today....I usually do when Dustin is working.

Last night Dustin grilled steaks for our Valentine's dinner. It was so good!

Look at Jax trying to get the steak!

Dustin was getting so annoyed with me taking pictures (ha!).

This afternoon I worked on finishing an Uppercase Living project that I have been meaning to do. In case your wondering what Uppercase Living is you can go here to find out. I am proud of my craftyness once again (ha!).

I am going to hang this in my entry way.

Then I went to see Confessions of a Shopaholic with Kelsie. I have mixed feelings on the movie. If you have read the books I think you will be disappointed. The movie is very different from the books. If you haven't read the books you will probably find the movie very cute. The books are ten times better than the movie, but books are usually better anyways.

I so do not want to go to work tomorrow. The weekends go by way too fast. I hope everyone had a great weekend!!

Weekend Madness!

First, let me start out by saying our weekend did not get off to a great start. On Friday we were going to Rockwall to meet our friends Matt & Miranda for dinner. Dustin was going to pick me up from work. It took him over 2 hours to get my office because of a wreck. By the time he got there he was in a very bad mood. He does not do well driving in traffic. I was stuck at work until 6:15 on a Friday.

This is Dustin pouting because it took so long to get to my office.

We finally get to the restaurant in Rockwall about 7:00. We were the first ones there so we went and sat at the bar and had a drink. We ate at Kyoto which is a Japanese hibachi grill. Matt & Miranda showed up about 30 minutes later.

Matt & Miranda

Miranda & I

After Miranda's other friends arrived we finally got to sit down and eat. I was starving because we didn't eat until almost 9 o'clock but the food was yummy!

Dustin and I got home so late so we didn't go to breakfast this morning like we had planned. So we opened Valentines' gifts this morning instead.

Dustin being the scrooge that he is (ha!).

I got him a bunch of his favorite candy and tickets to the Ft. Worth Zoo. He has been dying to go to the zoo. I finally caved in and got him tickets.

Dustin got me the sweetest card and a bag of M&M's (my favorite candy). We agreed not to get a lot for each other because we are refinancing our house. Besides that is about as romantic as Dustin gets (ha!).

Then we went to sign our tax return....yay! that means money for us!!! After that we went and ate lunch on the square and then ran to Target and the grocery store. I ordered some curtains for the kitchen from JCPenney and I needed to get some curtain rods. We hung the curtains this afternoon and I think they turned out great! I am not a very creative or decorative person by nature (ha!).

The kitchen/dining area

Tonight Dustin is grilling steaks and making mashed potatoes. Yum! We are staying in tonight and will probably go rent a movie. I am excited to go see Confessions of a Shopaholic tomorrow with Kelsie and Jennifer! Now I am off to walk the dogs.

Happy Valentine's Day!

Super Excited!!

I am so excited!! Guess what came out today???

That's right....Confessions of a Shopaholic!!! I can't wait to see this movie! I read every single one of Sophie Kinsella's books from the Shopaholic Series. I think all of us ladies can relate to Rebecca Bloomwood. Shopping is an addiction. If you haven't read the books go get them. They are fabulous. You can't help but feel a connection with Rebecca Bloomwood. I am hoping I get around to seeing this movie this weekend. I am thinking girls night!!

Is anyone else as excited about this movie as I am??

So Annoyed

I am starting to get annoyed with American Idol. I love this show and I always have...probably because I secretly wish I could sing. I sing when I am by myself and I love to pretend I can sing like Carrie Underwood. I wish!!

It seems to me like it is not just a singing competition anymore. I started to see signs the past few seasons but this season is really bad. Last night when I was watching to see who made the final 36 you could really tell that some people made it through for other reasons. It was especially obvious when they had the sing off between the 2 blondes. Simon wanted to keep the better looking blonde even though her voice was not as strong as the other blonder. (I can't remember their names so I will refer to them as the "blondes".) In the end the blonde with the better voice made it. I realize that appearance is part of the package when you become a celebrity but still, this is a singing competition.

They also kept certain people because they are entertaining and make for great TV. Example being, Norman Gentle. Yea, he was funny but there were better singers that got cut so they could keep him on to make for better TV. So annoying. I hope he does not become another Sanjiya (excuse my spelling) that stays around because he is funny while other talented singers go home. Not that any of this is really that important but I am avid watcher of American Idol and it just really annoys me.
On a brighter note: I am so glad it is almost the weekend. Don't really have any big plans but we are going out with our friends Matt & Miranda tomorrow night for Miranda's birthday. Oh and I am really excited for the Grey's Anatomy / Private Practice crossover event that was supposed to be last week. I love these shows!! Yes, I know I am a TV addict!

Retail Therapy

I have not been shopping in forever and I have this huge itch to go shopping. Before I got married I was always buying clothes. Now that I am married there is just so many other things our money goes to. It's a good thing my birthday is coming up because I don't think I can go much longer without breaking down and buying some new clothes. There are so many cute spring outfits that are just calling my name.

Plus I have 3 weddings, a bachelorette party and a bridal shower coming up. That is reason enough to buy a new outfit, right? I found these really cute shoes today online at Dillard's.
I may just have to break down and buy these. They would be so cute this summer with cute black shorts or jeans. I love animal prints. Also, the bachelorette party I am going to at the end of the month we are all wearing black and white. I found this cute shirt at Express . (It wouldn't let me copy the picture so you will have to click on the link.)

I am also looking for a new dress for all the weddings I have to attend. I found a few dresses online at Dillard's. They kind of look similar.

What do you think???

But, the # 1 thing on my list that I want so bad is the Sony Reader Digital Book. It is so cool! You can download books onto it and never have to go to the book store to buy books. Way cool!!!! It is very expensive though.

I have the wants really bad!!! Yikes!

A Scrooge and A Romantic

So I have discovered that I am married to a scrooge. I guess I kind of knew of his scrooge like personality when we were dating but it seems to have gotten worse. Don't get me wrong my husband can be romantic when he wants to be, but it is not very often. Me, I like holidays such as Valentine's Day because I like getting cards for loved ones and cute little Valentine's Day gifts. It's fun! My husband not so much. He won't even recognize the holiday. I will admit Valentine's Day is over commercialized and honestly why should we recognize our love for our significant other on one day out of the year. We should do it every day.

I went yesterday and got all my Valentine's Day cards and I mailed them out today. I love sending and receiving mail. I also got Dustin's gift yesterday. It is nothing big because I had no idea what to get him. We aren't doing anything special for Valentine's Day but we might go to breakfast/brunch on Saturday morning. Trying to go any where for dinner on Saturday night would be impossible. Does any one have special plans for Valentine's Day?

On a side note: I did find a good recipe from Southern Living....Candy Bar Pie.

Here is the recipe. It looks so yummy! It has a baked pretzel crust. Also, if you go here there is lots of other delicious dessert recipes.

Crop for the Cure

On Saturday I went to Crop for the Cure with my friend Stephanie. I started my wedding scrapbook. It was a lot of fun but I don't think I could take up scrapbooking as a hobby. For one, it is very expensive and two, it is very time consuming. I was there for 6 hours and I only finished 4 pages. I was amazed by all of the fancy machines and bags full of scrapbook stuff that women brought to this event. It was crazy! I felt silly with my one little bag of stuff.

I am excited to get my album finished and I think it is a neat idea to keep all of my stuff from my wedding in. I took a few pictures of my work....LOL!

I also made this cute tile for my entry way.

Saturday night after I finished scrapbooking I was able to convince Dustin to go see "He's Just Not That Into You". We went to eat dinner with Jennifer and Clay at the Pour House and then went to watch the movie. It was a good movie but a little long. It kind of went on too long. Dustin took a nice long nap during the movie. Even though it was said that it is a great date movie....it is a chick flick. Here is a picture of Jennifer and I at dinner.

I hope everyone had a great weekend!
