Future Fireman

Not much to report as this has been a pretty uneventful week.  I tried to catch up on sleep and take it easy.  My mom came and stayed the night with me on Thursday while Dustin was at work.  I got about 9 hours of sleep Thursday night and it felt great.  I almost forgot what it was like to sleep through the night!

Friday afternoon Grayson had his hearing test with the specialist.  Everything went well and the nurse said there is nothing to worry about.  We were pretty relieved to hear that.  We have to take him back in September and they will repeat the test again.  They just want to make sure that nothing changes.  Grayson did pretty good during the test.  I didn't get a picture but the poor little guy had all these wires hooked up to him.  That evening I went to dinner with my parents while Dustin went and played and softball.  Grayson did really well at the restaurant and slept the whole time.

Saturday I had to go take my wedding ring to get re-sized.  It won't fit over my nuckle.  The jewelry store is right by my Dad's furniture store so we stopped in to see my Dad.

I love this picture of the two of them!

Then my mom and I ran to Old Navy.  They have some cute stuff right now.  I got a few new things.  Grayson started to wake up so we went ahead and went home plus it is just so dang hot out that I was miserable.  I know Grayson was too.  Grayson's umbilical cord fell off earlier this week so we have been doing tummy time.  Jax wanted in on tummy time too.

Late Saturday afternoon Dustin's mom and sister came over to visit Grayson.  We grilled hamburgers and hung out.

Today we went to visit Daddy at work.....hint the title of the post.  I got some really cute pictures of Daddy and his future fireman!

I don't have a lot planned for this week.  I am just enjoying my time off with my little man and trying to get him on a schedule.  He is slowly starting to adjust but I am still up at least 3 times during the night.  I am hoping in a few weeks that we can cut it back to 2 times a night.  Grayson does not like to sleep at night so we will see.  I just hope we get it figured out before I go back to work or there is no way I will be able to function.

I hope you all have a great week!

Week in Review

This week went by super fast.  Where does the time go? We had quite a busy week.  On Monday Grayson had to go back to the hospital for some routine tests.  He had to take his hearing test again and his PKU test.  He failed his hearing test for a 5th time so we have to go see a specialist this coming Friday.  The pediatrician said not to worry about the hearing test.  She said lots of babies pass once they go see the specialist.  I am not too worried anymore because I know he can hear.  The dogs have startled him many times and so has the hair dryer.  I will feel a little better after we see the specialist though.

On Tuesday Dustin and I took Grayson to Target.  We wanted to get out of the house and we needed a few things.  He slept most of the time.  He started waking up towards the end but we fed him a bottle and he went right back to sleep.  Luckily he didn't he wake up screaming like he does most of the time.

On Wednesday we got brave and we went to lunch at Chili's.  It was a success.  This was our little man the entire time.

He was just so darn cute I had to snap a picture!

We took it easy on Thursday.  I had a doctor's appointment with my doctor and then I made a quick trip to Wal-Mart.  Dustin kept Grayson while I went.  The doctor said everything looked great and I lost all of my pregnancy weight except for 5 Ibs.  I am by no means bragging though.  I still need to lose about 15 pounds but I will settle for 10.  I plan on starting Weight Watchers soon.  I have pretty much stopped breast feeding so dieting is not off limits anymore.  I tried breast feeding but I just could not keep him satisfied.  I didn't have enough milk and once he got the formula in a bottle he was not interested in nursing anymore.  The pediatrician said probably because with a bottle he doesn't have to work for it.  Lazy thing!  I tried to keep nursing but it was a struggle to get him to eat.  So he is pretty much on formula now and I am okay with it.

Friday was my first day on my own.  Dustin went back to work.  It went pretty well! Grayson had a doctor's appointment with the pediatrician Friday afternoon.  My mom went with me.  Grayson weighs 10 Ibs 11 oz.  He is such a chunky monkey!  She said everything else looked great and we don't go back until he is 2 months.  After the doctor my mom and I went to the mall for about 30 minutes.  We were scared he was going to wake up screaming so we just made a short trip.  It was so nice to go to the mall and look at clothes that were NOT maternity.  I didn't buy anything but I can't wait to make my first non-maternity purchase!

Last night my good friend Kelsie had a gender reveal party!  It was a lot of fun!  Grayson's Grammy and Grumpy (my parent's) watched him while Dustin and I went to the party.  We took a family picture before we left.

Dustin's eyes are closed as usual.

Such a cutie!

The party was a lot of fun!  Kelsie had everything decorated really cute!

We ate burgers and waited in suspense to find out if they were having a girl or boy.

I was team pink!

and Dustin was team Blue.

We all got our cupcakes and took a bite at the same time.

and we found out it's a.......

Boy!  Can you see the blue icing?

The party was such a good idea and I am so excited for Kelsie and Drew.  Their little man Brock will be here in December!  Grayson will have a buddy now!  Can't wait!

Today we are taking it easy and catching up on sleep and laundry.  Hopefully this week won't be as busy!

Grayson's First Week of Life

Yesterday Grayson was one week old.  Time is already flying by so fast....except for the sleepless nights.  I will admit I am exhausted and this is a lot harder than I ever expected.  I know it will get easier though.

Here is what has happened over the course of his first week of life:

- He eats about every two hours and nurses for about 40 minutes to an hour each time.....see why I am exhausted??? We have been supplementing with formula which helps.  It kind of keeps him full longer plus it gives me a break and Dustin can feed him some.

- He had his first bath.  He cried until about half way through and then he calmed down.  We gave him a bath the other night and he didn't cry at all.  I still get a little nervous giving him a bath.  I feel so bad for him because he shakes the whole time because he is cold.  Poor little guy!

- He has done a lot of sleeping.  He still has his days and nights mixed up but the pediatrician said he should get straightened out in the next week or so.  I am praying hard he does because I don't know how many more nights like the ones we have had I can take.  He loves to sleep on his daddy's chest.

- Maribel and Jax love to give him kisses.  We have to keep them back but they are learning to just sniff and hold off on the kisses for now.  Maribel is like mother hen but even she doesn't get up anymore during the night.  You know you aren't getting any sleep when your dogs look beat down the next morning too.

- We had our first doctor appointment this week.  It was our first outing.  He likes the car and goes right to sleep.  He did very well at the doctor also.  He didn't cry once! He weighs 9 Ibs 15 oz so he is getting back to his birth weight.  He is in the 95th percentile on weight and the 70th percentile on length.  He is 20 1/4" long.  We go back to the doctor next Friday for another check up.

Look at those chubby checks!

We tried to get his newborn pictures taken today but we didn't get that many.  He was being very stubborn and wouldn't go to sleep.  We are going to try again tomorrow.  I am hoping he will cooperate.  It has been a rough week but we are enjoying being new parents.  I know we will look back on these days and laugh.  Although right now we have ruled out a second child.....ha! It is probably just the exhaustion talking though.

We feel extremely blessed and are enjoying watching our little man grow!

Labor & Delivery

Well there wasn't much laboring but there was a delivery.  The whole delivery experience was quite different than I imagined.  Of course the doctor explained how the process to me before hand and it was explained again once we got to the hospital.  I have never been admitted or stayed in a hospital before.  We got to the hospital at 6:30 am on Friday morning.  My c-section was scheduled for 8 am.  They immediately got me into a prep room and hooked me up to a monitor.  They started my IV and took my blood. I was having some contractions but they were not strong at all. Then the nurse came back in and said that we got pushed back because an emergency c-section came in.

Us and all of our family waited anxiously for our turn.  Finally around 9:00 they came and said it was time.

They took me back to the operating room so I could get my spinal.  The OR was very interesting as I have only seen the inside of one on TV which aren't real.  It was very cold.  It didn't take long for them to do my spinal and I immediately went numb.  It was an odd experience.  They told me I might get naucous and I did.  I started to feel like I was going to throw up.  They gave me some medicine in my IV and the feeling instantly went away.  The doctors finished getting everything ready and they started the procedure.  Dustin came in and it seemed like he was only at my side for a second. My doctor let him step around the curtain to watch and take pictures.  We were told he wasn't allowed to view the open area because of liability reasons but I guess my doctor let Dustin because he is a paramedic and had seen this done before.

Sorry if this grosses any of you out.

Then they brought him around the curtain for me to see and then immediately took him to get checked out.  Dustin went with Grayson and then once they cleaned him up they brought him back around for me to see.  I only got to see him for a second and then Dustin and Grayson headed to the nursery.  They stiched me back up and then I went to the recovery room.  Finally Dustin came to the recovery room.  I was in the recovery room for about an hour and then I finally got moved to a permanent room.

Then Dustin brought Grayson to our room and all my family was able to come back.  It was a very overwhelming experience.  Lots of emotions going through me.  Friday I was kind of out of it because of all the pain meds.  Apparently I used an entire thing of morphine and Dustin and the nurse were shocked.  I just hit the button every 6.5 minutes like the nurse said to.  Saturday was a rough day.  They took me off my IV and all the meds.  They switched me to pain pills.  I also had to get up and go to the bathroom now since my cath was taken out.  It was very painful.  It was also rough getting Grayson to breast feed.  It really is a difficult process.  We have the hang of it now thank goodness.  I had lots of visitors on Saturday.

Sunday was a pretty boring day.  Dustin and I were so ready to go home.  I was feeling better and the pain was a lot more managable.  We spent the day watching TV and movies on the lap top.  Finally on Monday morning I was released and we were able to come home.  I was so ready to get out of that hospital.

Here is Grayson's going home outfit.  I was really afraid it wasn't going to fit since it was newborn size and Grayson still weighs close to 10 Ibs.  He was almost a 4th of July baby so I thought this outfit was fitting.

In the car ready to go home!

Introducing Grayson to the dogs.  The dogs have done very well since we have been home.  They are both very interested in Grayson.  They really like to lick him so we have to watch them and keep them back.  Maribel goes anywhere Grayson goes.  When Grayson gets a little older I know the dogs are going to have a blast.

Our first night at home was rough.  Grayson did not want to sleep and Dustin and I didn't get much sleep.  Since Grayson is so big he wants be fed about every 2 hours.  It is so exhausting.  We tried keeping him awake more today but we didn't have a lot of luck.  It is hard to keep a newborn stimulated.  We did take a nap this afternoon while he slept.  We are hoping for a better night tonight.

We are both so in love Grayson but this whole process and experience is very overwhelming.  Everything has changed and it is a lot to take in.  I know we will survive this stage but it sure seems like we have a long road ahead of us.  This is probably the hormones talking now. Ha!

I have more sweet pictures of the dogs and Grayson and Grayson's first bath.  Hopefully I can get those up soon!

P.S. I am not proof reading or spell checking this so sorry for any typos.  I am off to get some sleep.....hopefully!
